Fishing Boats

There are many different kinds of fishing boats. You can fish out of many boats, but not boats like cigarette boats because they don't have room to stand out and cast from. Most fishing boats have a lot of space. They also have live wells to keep the fish in. A charter boat is a boat owned by someone that you rent to use for the day. They drive the boat and provide equipment so you don't have to take it all to the lake with you, but they are only found on bigger lakes. In Ohio, you can get one at Lake Erie and pay for a day out in the water though, and they are cheaper than owning a boat.

World Record Bluegill

The largest bluegill ever caught weighed five pounds and seven ounces. Bluegill are easy to catch because they are pretty stupid fish. I have even caught one using a piece of leaf as bait. It must have been hungry, but I don't think I have caught one bigger than a pound and a half. You can eat bluegill, and they are small enough that you can put them in a kids fish tank. A friend of mine did this once, and the fish they bought at the store kept dying, but after they put in the bluegill, those things lived for what seemed like a year.

World Record Bass

The largest large mouth bass in the world only weighed twenty five pounds and one ounce. It was caught by Mac Weakley using a handmade white rattlesnake jig. It was caught in Dixon Lake, near Carlsbad, CA. It was questioned as the worlds largest catch because it was hooked in the side. Since the foul hooking was unintentional, though, the state regulations said that it did count.

 

The world record small mouth bass was caught back in 1955 by a man named David Hayes. He caught it on the Tennessee-Kentucky state line and brought it to a nearby marina, where it was weighed. It weighed eleven pounds and fifteen ounces. It was twenty seven inches long. 

World Record Catfish

The world record cat fish weighed 646 pounds and was caught in Thailand. It was caught in May of 2005 and was called a Giant Mekong Catfish. It was five times bigger than the previous record holding catfish that was caught in America. Could you imagine frying up that much catfish?

In Spain, a blind, 56 year old woman caught the largest freshwater fish ever caught by a British woman, and it was a 214-pound catfish. She caught it in the River Ebro near Barcelona. She didn't know that it would be a half hour fight when she grabbed the pole she had planted on the side of the river, but she did land the fish. The woman was named Sheila and she is only five foot and three inches tall.

Types of Fish You Don't Want To Catch

There are a few fish that you don't want to catch. One of these is gar. You don't want to catch gar because they can bite through your line with there extremely sharp teeth. Another fish that you probably don't want to catch is a sheep head. These fish are basically worthless. You can't eat them, and they don't really have a purpose once they are caught. You just have to throw them back. They do nothing but steal bait and break lines, and if you catch one you can't even do anything with it! There are also other fish that you don't want to catch, but the problem is that you don't realize it until they get to the boat.

Turtles

So far, I have told about fish - but what about turtles? There are many different types of turtles. A few are leatherback turtle, snapping turtle, painted turtle, or musk turtle (or stinkpot). You can eat a snapping turtle, but not a leatherback. Painted turtles are too small to be worth eating. Stinkpots are kind of named that for a reason. It would make sense not to eat one. Turtles can cause problem when you are fishing because they can bite through your line, or you can get snagged on them. Instead of biting your line, they could also bite you, so you need to be careful with turtles.

Different Types of Freshwater Fish

There are many different types of freshwater fish that you can try to catch. There are catfish, perch, walleye, bass, blue gill, and snake-heads. Each one of these fish can require special bait and tackle. The different kinds of fish also require different fishing techniques. For catfish, you have to be patient and have heavy equipment. For perch, you can troll in a boat with a trolling rig. Bass is fast-paced fishing compared to the others. Blue gill can be caught with minimal effort and any bait. They are not the smartest fish. It is important to use the right type of bait and tackle for the fish you are trying to catch.

Catfishing

The best time of day to go cat fishing is before dawn and right before dusk. The best time of the year to fish is during the spring or during the summer and early fall. I like to catfish with a few friends before going to work and on weekends. Cat fishing is a slow type of fishing, and involves a lot of waiting. It can teach a person to be patient. There are many different kinds of bait that can be used. You can use live minnows, chicken liver, and other bloody bait. Cat fishing is my favorite type of fishing.
